Just read in another thread that USCIS started producing EAD cards with a slightly different format from May 11. Could this explain why folks who have received the Card Production Ordered emails in May haven't yet received the card, since the switch over to the new card might've delayed the production and dispatch?

Permanent Resident Card
The Permanent Resident Card, Form I-551, is issued to all Permanent Residents as evidence of alien registration and their permanent status in the US. The card must be in your possession at all times. This requirement means that you are not only required to have a currently valid Form I-551 at all times, but also that you must carry your currently valid Form I-551 on your person at all times. The Permanent Resident Card currently is issued with a 10-year validity. You status as a Permanent Resident does not expire with the 10-year validity. Only the card expires. The card is only valid up to the expiration date and must be renewed before it expires.

This is good and healthhy discussion except for few who dont want to think beyond today's goal.
As someone has listed already few advantages of citizenship.
I would like to add that GC give you freedom in terms of the Emplyment and Residing in US. But it also has very strict criteria how you live in this country. You are no free with getting GC. Giving some points
You need to carry your GC all times with you.
You can be deported out of country if you dont report you forget to report your address changes.
You can be deported out of country for very small crimes such as DWI, shplifting etc.
Most of the states and federal govt dont emplyee non-citizens.
Several goverment benefits are not available to non-citizens
You can not be out of country for more than 6 months. And also not multiple time.
You need to able to prove that you ahve permanent ties to this country all the time you travel outside. (irrespective of time frame)
I am sure some other members can add lot to these points.
So in nut shell GC and Citizenship are totally different.
GC will just give you freedom from your employer. I am sure in long run you will also realize that your that freedom does not help you too much. May be a little bit if you are with consultant or IT field.
There is no harm in thinking ahead and thinking about citizenship. Those who will be satified with GC, does not need to worry about this discussion as they are no more interested in this future benefit.
Also there are lots of reasons that can be listed, why law makers will be interested in the advancing Citizenship benefit for HIGHLY SKILLED IMMIGRANT who is in the country for long time, has contributed to the Federal Taxes for five years, has good skills in STEM areas and has to suffer in comparision to Family based or marriage based applicants in terms of Citizenship. You can see recent advance of OPT for STEM graduates as small justifification for such hope.
So lets continue this discussion, and comeup with good demand list and supporting justification , in terms of Citizenship benefit for highly skilled immigrants who get GC based on emplpoyment.

Hopefully you'll get your PERM approved well before that. As soon as you get your PERM approved, make sure you file for your 140 under premium processing. IMHO, it's well worth the $1000 extra.

please note that although you have time till august 17th to file 485, unless you get ur labor approved in July u will not be eligible. The adjustment to extend it for a month is for people who were eligible in july. Please plan accordingly.

can you file I-485 while living in toronto (outside the country)? I thought you had to be living in US to file I-485......outside the country you can only file through consular processing....can someone clarify?

Took about 3 weeks. I submitted everything by courier to Houston CGI. I did not get any message saying that they had recieved the passport or that they had started; after 3 weeks the return courier just magically had my new passport.

Agreed, It is very unfortunate for people stuck in backlogs and I feel your pain... But would you rather have seen USCIS waste over 40000 visas by the end of the year without any PD movement (as reported by some on this forum)? We would have had another thread here blasting the inefficiency and unfairness of USCIS.
Bottomline, I would not like to work in USCIS right now.. They are basically damned if they do, damned if they dont. That said, I do hope that BECs get their act together like USCIS is trying to and get everyones labor cleared by the deadline before the next retrogression hits.
I mean even if some of guys had their PD current, USCIS did not approve the I-485. They said that all the I-485's are preadjudicated but did we see flood of approvals....? NO... To say that 40000 visas will be wasted is wrong. I bet there are 40000 Employment based 485's pending at USCIS right now with PD's before 2005. So why not make PD 2005? The president has endorsed the Senate approach and Tuesday indicated he does not regard such an approach as "amnesty" because illegal immigrants would have to get behind legal immigrants in line for citizenship. He added: "If Congress is worried about the number of people getting in, they can decrease the number of green cards. If you want a longer line for people, issue fewer green cards."
Despite the president's statement, "most Americans" consider his plan to be amnesty, said Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., a leading conservative. "There's just no support at home or in my heart."

For once, I disagree with you macaca. If someone is not being paid, it is not considered valid employer-employee relationship. Otherwise, what is the need for showing pay stubs during the green card process?
Not being paid when on this so-called desk should be a violation of the intent of the H1B, and if there is a loophole that allows such a thing, it needs to be filled.

Your lawyer is right I am not clear why but I work for a big company and even my lawyere told me that.
The labor is location specific. When you are working for a company and If you applied GC for the same job you are doing then there is no concept of Future employment. You are holding the job.
The only way as far as I understand is repllalying for Labor and 140 from current location and transferring your Priority Date.

The reciprocity treaty between US and other countries donoring H1 immigrants is very important and sensitive. This could be a very powerful leverage for the US law-makers to make them think again about the legal immigration...
It worth the IV forum to start digging in this direction. Together with the exposure to the media this would be the remedy of our problems. The rest is a waste of time.
